UCSF Mission Bay Dojo
In person training is currently suspended due to COVID-19. If you are interested in joining our virtual group training, please send an e-mail to Merv Dixon.
We train three nights a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays as follows:
Please also check the News page for last minute announcements such as days where training is closed for holidays.
Non-members are welcome to watch us train or join in; we ask that you please talk to one of the black belts the first time you come to the dojo.
Our Dojo is open to students, faculty and staff, as well as the community at large. Classes are open to both beginners and those with previous experience in Shotokan karate or other martial arts. UCSF sets the fees at $258/quarter for the general public, $210/quarter for Bakar members, or a drop in fee of $22.
Dress in comfortable workout clothes or wear your gi (uniform) if you have one. At the beginning of each term, there is an introductory class. The class provides an overview of Shotokan Karate training. While these are ideal times to join, new students are accepted at any time. When you arrive, introduce yourself to one of the black belts. You may also send an e-mail to Merv Dixon or Bill Maske to let us know you're coming or to ask any questions you may have.
Once you enroll, you are encouraged to join our mailing list JKA of California. It is a low-volume list, open only to current members and used to keep you informed about class schedules and special training events. Please send an email to Merv Dixon to be added.
We are located at the Bakar Fitness and
